The Full Story
Leaders of the Valley is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of students across Idaho by providing scholarships to those who demonstrate leadership and a commitment to strengthening their communities.
Our story began in 2023, when we recognized a gap in financial aid for students who work hard, show initiative, and contribute to their communities, but don’t always fit the traditional mold. Many scholarships focus solely on grades or conventional career paths, leaving behind students whose leadership shines in different ways.
We believe Idaho students have a unique talent for creating change and uplifting their neighborhoods—whether they’re future welders, linemen, teachers, doctors, or anything in between. Our program is designed to give all students a fair shot at funding, especially those pursuing hands-on careers or taking nontraditional routes to success.
By investing in these hardworking students, we’re not just funding education—we’re investing in the future of Idaho.
Board Members
Secretary
Nik Bertling
Nik Bertling is a former college athlete and graduate from Lewis-Clark State College. During his time he sat on the student government as a senator. Involved in several committees, and the Association of Student-Athletes.
Nik works as a Safety Specialist for Idaho Forest Group and volunteers his time to his home community of Bonners Ferry through coaching track and field. Using his experiences and connections from his time on college and his current professional life to help the Leaders of the Valley reach more communities.

Caden Massey
Caden Massey is a first-generation college student, and a seventh generation Idahoan, originally from Kamiah, Idaho. He believes in education and has devoted his life to youth success both in and out of a school setting. Caden established this program because he believes in Idaho and believes our youth are something special.
Treasurer
Isaiah Ewing
After completing a Bachelors in Applied Accounting, while serving as Pro Tempore Senator in Associated Students of Lewis-Clark State College his Senior Year. Isaiah has acquired a variety of accounting experiences while regularly volunteering and contributing to his community. Serving on the board has been a fulfilling intersection of profession and passion.
